A Better way of doing Hand-Drawn animation in Photoshop CC

Hi everyone,

My previous tutorials Doing Hand-Drawn Animation using Photoshop and After Effects CS6 (PART 1) & Doing Hand-Drawn Animation using Photoshop and After Effects CS6 (PART 2) are both very out of date.

I’m writing this post to let everyone know that the method displayed in these tutorials are, in my opinion, an archaic way of doing hand-drawn animation in Photoshop.  If you have Photoshop CC please look into Stephane Baril’s free “AnimDessin2” 2.0.0 panel for Photoshop CC. It’s an HTML panel that helps automate a lot of the steps required when doing animation in Photoshop.  The CS6 version is mentioned in the comment thread on (PART 1), however the new version of the panel designed for Photoshop CC is greatly enhanced and I use it all the time.  Check it out:

Here’s an animation for Quoted Studios that i worked on with my friend Drew Christie for Harper Audio Classics where we used a combination of the “AnimDessin2” 2.0.0 Photoshop CC panel and Adobe After Effects:

Here’s a hand-drawn animated Music video for the band Kuroma, created by my friend Joe Waine also using the “AnimDessin2” 2.0.0 Photoshop CC panel:

  1. Hey, thanks for sharing this stuff. I just started messing around in Photoshop to create animation for a MFA degree in graphic design at Liberty University. And your posts have been a big help.

Someone out there is looking at this stuff and I think it’s great!
